Recycling do's and don'ts are confusing. Here's a simplified guide that helps make it easier to know what you can and cannot recycle!

Not everything that we recycle can actually be recycled. What you can recycle varies depending on where you live, but here are a few rules of thumb to help you get started!

Things to Know When Recycling Paper

One of the most common things talked about when it comes to recycling is paper! But did you know that there are actually some cases where you can't recycle your paper products? Some paper products are coated in plastic, such as coffee cups. Other cases where you can't recycle it is if the paper has been soiled with things such as foods or liquids.

Another tricky thing about paper recycling is shredded paper. This depends on your location, but there are different rules when it comes to recycling shredded paper. Some places don't accept it if it's mixed in with your other recycling. Make sure to check for your area if it's safe or not, and what procedure you should follow.

Can I Recycle Old Electronics?

Did you know you old computers, phones, and chargers can be recycled?? Electronic waste is often called e-waste, and it's important to recycle these items as well as your papers, glass, metals, and plastics. However, you can't recycle it in your normal recycling bin. This is another thing that varies by where you live, but a lot of office supply stores have an option where you can bring these items in to be recycled. • Avoid recycling plastic bags with your normal recycling, as these can ruin recycling machines.

  • Research what types of plastic you can recycle in your area.

  • Find ways to repurpose items before you recycle!

  • Try not to recycle tiny items as these can also get stuck in recycling machines.
